Generally, habits are practically difficult to break once they are formed. Sinful habits are even more difficult, because they contaminate the spiritual life and ultimately damn the soul. These habits characterize the lives of the unregenerate, and many professing Christians who claim religion without righteousness. In fact, they are usually hypocrites who rarely practise what they profess.
Some of the habits people engage in include lying, slandering, backbiting, false witnessing, etc. Sinful habit is a reflection of a filthy and perverse heart. The condition of your heart is very important to God. Interestingly, the heart of a man behaves like a prostitute who receives everything that comes her way. Beloved, is your heart right with God? When a thought is consistently formed and acted upon, it gradually grows into a habit. *“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness…”* (Mk. 7:21-23). Those who engage in these sinful habits have evil intentions and motives; they imagine, plan and execute evil against others (Prov. 24:8). However, the word of God has revealed that God will not spare anyone who engages in these works (Rom. 1:32). I pity Christians who hide under grace to perpetually wallow in secret sinful habits. Friend, if you have any of the sinful habits in your life, be aware that those who engage in them will incur the wrath of God upon themselves. Make your ways right with God by examining yourself now before it is too late, and repent of those sinful habits. Stop nurturing friendship and association that predispose you to sinful habits. It is sad to hear that some children of God pick up bad and sinful habits on campus or in the place of work. As children of light, you are to influence this world of darkness for God. You are the salt of the earth; mandated to sweeten the earth and preserve it from rottenness. People will come to the brightness of your light and sweetness of your salt, thereby glorifying God. You are to be change agents who do not conform to the worldly system, but live by example, thus, transforming the people living in perverseness. Drop any habit that can affect your relationship with God, and lead you to hell fire.
Finally, if you have not yet given your life to Jesus Christ, repent of your sins and accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour today. As you yield your heart to God, you become a new person with good and Godly habit. Welcome to the first day of the last month of the year 2024. *SHALOM*
