The first miracle performed by Elisha, after receiving the mantle of power from Elijah, was the parting of River Jordan. While returning from following his master, he smote the river with the mantle, calling the Lord God of Elijah to action; and the river parted into two. The healing of the water and land of Jericho was the second miracle after the transfer of power.
It was clearly evident that Elisha had become heavily anointed and developed so much boldness to perform miracles, after parting the River Jordan. The situation of the city of Jericho was pleasant, but the water was bad and the ground was barren. What a double tragedy! Water, the source of life; and ground, the symbol of productivity have been spiritually attacked. Thank God for the spiritual insight and sensitivity given to the men of the city, requesting divine intervention from Prophet Elisha. “And he said, bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt there, and said, thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land” (2 Kings 2:20-21). In this New Year, God will open your eyes to the solution which your situation requires in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. The prophet knew that the problem faced by the city was foundational and rooted in the source of their water. Thus, he knew that the water would become good once its source was healed. Have you ever wondered why Elisha requested for a new cruse and salt? It was a combination of prophetic and healing ministry! The new cruse was both symbolic and prophetic of a new chapter opened in the history of Jericho and its inhabitants. The Bible says “So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha, which he spake” (2 Kings 2:22). The healing was totally permanent. I speak prophetically that this is your year of a new dispensation in the name of Jesus.
As you journey through this year, God will give you a new cruse that will completely change your status and story. The salt is characterized with its healing, purifying and seasoning power.
