The Touch of Faith

In human beings, the physical touch produces a sense of feeling; and that is why you must be wary of how you touch. As a matter of fact, women are very sensitive to touch. Similarly, there is a spiritual dimension to touch, as we shall be discussing in this piece. I pray that God will open our eyes of understanding in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

During the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, many miracles were wrought by Him through direct or indirect touch. Notable among them was a woman whose name is only known in the Bible as the woman with the issue of blood. The nomenclature was as a result of her peculiar and strange ailment, which defied all medical options. The woman had suffered in the hands of the physicians and had spent all she had, yet her health condition grew worse. One day, she had the opportunity to come near where Jesus was being thronged among the crowd. She did something that brought a permanent solution to her ordeal of solid twelve years- she touched the hem of His garment. The book of Mark 5: 24-34 gives the account of the woman who was later addressed by Jesus as daughter. The Bible says the woman had heard about the healing testimonies of people who touched Jesus’ hem of garment. This spurred her faith; deciding in her heart, she said: *“… if I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague”* (Mark 5:28-29). A cursory look at the above scripture shows certain principles followed by the woman. The first is the principle of belief. She believed other people’s testimonies about their healing, resulting from touching Jesus. The second is the principle of decision. The woman decided to get close to Jesus, to the point of touching just the hem of His garment for her healing. The third is the principle of doggedness. She pushed through the thronging crowd to ensure that her decision is turned to action. Friend, you need to go beyond wishful thinking or belief; take a step of faith by acting on God’s word. Interestingly, the woman’s touch produced a two-way feeling between her and Jesus. The woman felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. Immediately, after the touch, Jesus knew that virtue had gone out of Him. He then asked *“Who touched my clothes?”* (Mark 5:30).

The major connecting rod to touching the hem of Jesus’ garment is faith, which comes by hearing the word of God. Be identified with Him and be connected to Him today, and you will experience the supernatural. God bless you richly. *SHALOM*
