Your New Identity

A divine identity shift takes place when you receive Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour. You are redeemed from being a slave to sin and translated into the Kingdom of God. Overwhelmed by the reality of such unparalleled privilege of divine sonship, John the Beloved exclaimed in 1John 3:1, “Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.”

There is no higher privilege in life than this and there is no greater status on earth than to be a child of the Almighty God. As a child of God, your position has changed! Before you became born-again, you were guilty and condemned. Owing to your sinfulness, you were dead in trespasses and by nature, an object of His wrath (Ephesians 2:3). But now, He has redeemed you from sin and made you sit together in heavenly places with Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). Also, your identity has changed! You, who used to be far away from God, have been brought near by the blood of Jesus (Ephesians 2:12). Your status has also changed! You are no more a slave to sin, satan or the law. You are now a child of God, receiving all the rights and privileges of the heirs of God. You have a new relationship and intimacy with the Father. You no longer live under the fear of divine judgement and condemnation. You now have access to the Father by Jesus Christ and can enjoy intimate relationship with Him till eternity (Ephesians 1:18). Being a child of God also gives you unlimited access to the provisions the Father made for all His children. The following are freely yours: salvation and adoption into His family; sanctification and holiness experience; power of Holy Spirit; His ever-abiding presence; and many more. The list is inexhaustible for the Bible says “all things are yours” (1Corinthians 3:21). What a great privilege to have God as our Father and to enjoy all His goodness, loving-kindness and tender mercies. It is therefore important to protect this identity; this is our responsibility. Have you been doing this?

Today presents another opportunity, if you are yet to be connected with that compassionate God. When you accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour today, He will wipe away your past and give you a clean slate. I Corinthians 5:17 says “If any man is in Christ, He is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.” God bless you. SHALOM
