Understanding Anointing - Part 1

Anointing is one of the ancient secrets guarded jealously by the patriarchs of faith. I actually think there is something about anointing that the saints of old understood but which we are probably unable to fathom. To many people, anointing is just like dropping oil on their heads or falling under its power. What really is anointing? Anointing is a Hebrew word which means to smear with oil. It was given in the days of Moses to consecrate those that would minister before God in the tabernacle and to endow them with divine ability. Thus, anointing is simply God’s potent energy and empowerment in a believer. It is God’s certification, authentication and authorization given to His children.

In Acts 10:38, the Bible says “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Spirit and with power and He went about doing good, healing all they that were oppressed of the devil for God was with Him”. In Exodus 31:1-5, God said He has anointed Bezaleel; this indicates that anointing is a divine energy that makes ordinary people do the extraordinary. It was the anointing upon Joseph that separated him for supernatural creativity to the extent of providing solution to the world economic problem. Before Saul, the son of Kish, was anointed; he was a weak man but when the anointing came upon him, the Bible says he became another man. Severally, levels of victory in the Bible were directly linked to anointing - the impartation of the Holy Spirit. In Luke 4: 15-21, the scripture says Jesus entered the temple and the book of Isaiah was handed over to Him. As He opened it, He said “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me for He has anointed me…,” that was His secret! As a matter of fact, you truly have no function and place in the Kingdom business if you are not anointed. It was anointing that made Jesus the Christ and that word is a Greek word “Christo” which means the anointed one. Every believer who desires to make impact in his/her world needs to be anointed because it is what separates you from mere men. The Bible says in 1John 2:20 that you have the anointing in you and it teaches you all things. This means that anointing teaches you what to do per time with high precision and accuracy.

When Paul saw the lady who has the spirit of divination, by anointing, he discerned there was a wrong spirit in her even though she was saying the right thing. Like the men of Issachar, we need anointed generation - men and women who can discern their time of visitation and see the things that are yet to come. (To be contd.) Happy New Month! SHALOM
