Our God is too faithful to fail as He is committed to keeping all His promises and covenants. Therefore, He demands unflinching faithfulness from His children. “Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful” (1Corinthians 4:2). Unfortunately, this is a quality that is fast fading away in the body of Christ. Today, faithfulness is becoming a scarce commodity among the Christian community. The wisest king that ever lived, Solomon, wrote in Proverbs 20:6 “Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?”
To have a better understanding of the topic under discourse, there is need to explain the meaning of the key word ‘faithful’ which means trustworthiness, steadfastness, fidelity, stability, sure and true. Looking again at the root word of ‘faithfulness’ – faith, if it is used as a verb, simply means ‘to believe’. If it is used as a noun, it means ‘belief’. To be faithful can thus mean one who can be relied on, who is accountable, steadfast; a trustworthy person in business transactions or discharge of official or even sacred/spiritual duties. Other synonyms for ‘faithfulness’ include loyalty, commitment, steadfastness, etc. The book of Luke 16:10-13 gives the three tests of faithfulness. The first is faithfulness in that which is least; the word ‘least’ in the above scripture means smallest, insignificant, without notice etc. It must be understood that being faithful in little tasks is a precursor to faithfulness in great responsibilities. God is a capitalist who expects maximum returns on every of His investment. Ponder on these questions: do I keep my promises? Do my neighbours consider me a honest and dependable person? The second test is faithfulness in another man’s things (1Corinthians 4:2). You must be willing to give yourself wholeheartedly to see others succeed. Allan McGinnis said, “There is no noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being, to help someone succeed.” David was faithful in his service to Saul, despite the fact that he neither appreciated nor recognized his service to him (1Samuel 26:21-25). The third test is faithfulness in natural things, a simple example of this is obeying the law of the land, not jumping traffic lights etc. (Daniel 6:4).
What will be God’s testimony concerning you? Can the heaven bear you and me record that we are faithful in that which God has committed into our hands? Friend, stop being faceful, be faithful in your service to God and dealings with man! God bless you richly. SHALOM
