Profiting by the Word

A very potent and lethal way to fighting and winning spiritual battle is the word of God. The devil could not resist the word of God, when he came tempting the Lord three consecutive times. God’s word is as powerful as God Himself; He has exalted His word above His name. However, it is imperative to know that one needs to go beyond the level of reading or hearing the word of God.

The word of God is profitable to only those who believe and apply it to their lives. God’s word becomes profitable to you when you take the step of faith by doing what it says. Faith is built by continuous hearing, and doing according to the word of God. *“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”* (Rom. 10:17). Let me ask you these pertinent questions: what do you hear? Who do you listen to? Whose report do you believe? The word of God is like a seed planted which is expected to grow into maturity and eventually be harvested. Friend, you need to receive God’s word by faith, so that you can profit thereby. *“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them; but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it”* (Heb. 4:2). Faith is like the catalyst that activates the embedded power in the word of God. If you want God’s word to work for you, walk based on the word of God! Every word of God read or heard should be applied by faith. God is intentional with His words, He means and does what He says! He said *“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”* (Isa. 55:11). God’s word is His bond, as He does not renege on His word! In addition to believing the word of God, you must confess the word to your situation. You must also live and act the word; what you confess must be your lifestyle. It is surprising that some believers are selective in the portion of scriptures they read or apply. *“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”* (2Timo. 3:16). The word of God that says ‘peace be unto you’ also says ‘there is no peace for the wicked’. To the Psalmist, God’s word is both a rod and a staff.

Beloved, you cannot continue to trivialize the word of God, and expect to profit by it. You must desire the sincere milk of the word; that you may grow thereby (1Pet. 2:2). God’s word must be like oxygen to you. May the word of God fulfill its purpose in your life in Jesus’ name. God bless you richly. *SHALOM*
