Life is challenging, and sometimes, we are constrained to focus on the struggles. But what if we make a habit of counting our blessings instead? Recognizing God’s goodness in our lives does not only fill us with gratitude, it also fuels our hope for the future. Gratitude is more than just saying “thank you.” It is a way of living that acknowledges God’s hand in every aspect of our lives.
Apostle Paul admonishes us in 1Thessalonians: *“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”* Even in difficult seasons, there is always something to be thankful for - a kind word from a friend, a sumptuous meal, or the beauty of nature. These blessings, no matter how small, remind us of God’s love and provisions. When we take time to list the ways God has blessed us, it shifts our perspective. Instead of focusing on what we lack, we see how much we have already been given. The Psalmist says: *“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits”* (Ps. 103:2). Have you ever paused to reflect on many blessings in your life? Maybe it is the gift of family, health, or the strength to get through a challenging time. Each blessing, big or small, is a testament to God’s faithfulness. Counting our blessings does not just make us grateful - it ignites our hope. When we remember what God has done for us in the past, it builds our confidence in His ability to handle the future. *“For I know the plans I have for you,”* declares the Lord, *“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”* (Jer. 29:11).
Reflecting on God’s goodness gives us courage to trust Him, even when the road ahead seems uncertain. When we share our blessings with others, it encourages them to see God’s goodness in their own lives too. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 *“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”* Simple acts like sharing a testimony, writing an encouraging note, or helping someone in need can spark hope in someone else’s heart. Our gratitude becomes a beacon of hope, pointing others to God as the source of our blessings. Counting our blessings is more than just a feel-good exercise; it is a way to deepen our faith and ignite hope in us and others. Take a moment today to count your blessings. Write them down, thank God for each one, and let His faithfulness fill you with hope. As you do, you will find that gratitude lights up your life and the lives of those around you.
Let us choose to be people who count blessings and spread hope; trusting that God’s goodness will carry us into a brighter tomorrow. Your testimony is just around the corner! *SHALOM*
