Be Wise!

The Bible is replete with the imperatives of wisdom, as mostly documented by the wisest king in the annals of history. King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 4:7 “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” The present generation of youths have access to myriads of information on the internet and social media. This has led to exposure to worldly wisdom and knowledge. Unfortunately, they think they know it all and may not care to listen to the elderly and godly counsel. How can someone be wise?

Wisdom is not limited to formal education, there are many people who did not pass through the four walls of classroom but are endowed with wisdom. You cannot rule out the role of experience, age, family background, parental upbringing, etc. in the acquisition of wisdom. I will like to briefly and specifically talk about getting wisdom through instruction, correction and discipline. Anyone who desires to be wise will not despise the aforementioned. “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” (Prov. 12:1). I am sure that nobody likes to be called stupid or foolish, but the scripture describes anybody who hates correction as such. Do you like being instructed or corrected? How do you take discipline, whether at home or in the church? Parents need to ensure that they instruct, correct and discipline their children. If it requires applying slight punishment, they should not hesitate to do so. As long as it is done in love, parents should not spare the rod! “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him.” (Prov. 22:15). The Psalmist also confirmed the same when he declared that …Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (Psalms 23:4). May the Lord help the parents to raise a generation of God-fearing children in Jesus name. Youths must be willing to follow the instruction of the elders and also yield to godly and scriptural counsels, if they want to be wise. It is also recommended that they move with the wise, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed” (Prov.13:20).

Wisdom is embedded in being connected to the source of wisdom Himself! Jesus Christ is the wisdom and the power of God (1Cor. 1:24). Do you have a relationship with Jesus? If not, this is a golden opportunity to accept His Lordship. As a child of God, you need to take to corrections, instructions, be wise and walk in wisdom. God bless you. Happy New Month! SHALOM
