Trusting God

Trust means a firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something. In other words, it is the assured reliance on the character, and established confidence in a person or thing. Trust is an essential ingredient required for a smooth and virile relationship. For instance, it takes trust for husband and wife to build their home and enjoy their marriage. A business venture which is devoid of trust cannot thrive very well. Trust is very key to friendship!

Similarly, trusting God in our relationship with Him is the surest way to enjoy divine provisions. Many patriarchs of old were notable for their absolute trust in God, in their walk with Him. As case studies, let us examine some of these bible characters. God told Abraham to leave his native land - Haran, and go to a land He would show him (Gen. 12:1-5). This sounds unreasonable to a rational man, but Abraham departed because, he had absolute trust in God who has spoken. The result of Abraham’s obedience to God is very obvious for everyone to see. David was a man who trusted in God so much that he used the word ‘trust in God’ the most in the Bible. David reposed his confidence and trust in God, even in the face of numerous confrontations. In the midst of it all, he would still declare God as his hope and trust. He explained trusting God in Psalms 125:1- *“They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever”*. The three young Hebrew men- Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, dared king Nebuchadnezzar’s order to worship his idol. Their refusal to obey the king was because of their unalloyed trust in the living God. Hear these three young guys speak confidently to the king, before being cast into the fiery furnace: *“… our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up”* (Dan. 3:17-18). This was a matter of trusting God, even at the risk of losing their precious lives. In the process of making choices, do you make God the second option? In turbulent times, do you run to men for help? The phrase, do not be afraid, is written 365 times in the Bible; suggesting that the devil brings fear every day of the year. We therefore, need to trust God every day as an antidote for the devices of the enemy. God is looking for people who will totally trust Him and have no other alternatives.
