There are times when we pray, seek God, and expect answers, but all we get is a loud silence. It can feel discouraging and disconcerting; making us wonder if God is still listening. But we are not alone, even great men of faith had this experience. David, a man after God’s heart, cried out, *“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?* (Ps. 22:1).
When God seems silent, remember that He is still working. Just because we do not hear Him does not mean He has abandoned us. Sometimes, His silence is part of His divine plan, setting the stage for something greater. Job, a man who lost everything, still trusted in God despite His silence. *“But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold”* (Job 23:10). Even when we do not understand His ways, we must trust that His plans are good. God’s silence is often a period of preparation. Joseph was thrown into the prison, despite knowing God’s plan for his life. David had to wait years before becoming king, even after he had been anointed. In these silent seasons, God is building our faith and character. Apostle James gave a counsel, “Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:3).
Even when God seems quiet, He still hears us (1Jn. 5:14). Just because you do not see immediate results does not mean your prayers are not heard or granted. Jesus encourages us to be persistent in the place of prayer. When God seems silent, cling to His promises. He has already given us His word, and His word is true. The Psalmist encourages us to *“Be still, and know that I am God”* (Ps. 46:10). This means trusting Him even when we do not understand. His silence is not rejection; it is an invitation to trust Him more. If you are experiencing a season of divine silence, do not let your heart be wearied. Keep reading the Word, stay connected to fellow believers, and hold on to faith. Romans 8:28 gives us this assurance: *“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”* God is always working, even when it seems He is silent. His answer will come at the right time. Until then, keep trusting and waiting on Him.
Friend, in God’s seeming quietness or silence, be expectant with unwavering faith. He is attending to your case, and you will soon receive the tangible evidence. God bless you.
