Welcome to the eighth month of the year 2023. The Lord will give you august visitations in this month of August. He will continue to be your Great High Priest for the rest of the year and beyond.
In the Old Testament, the high priests were the intermediaries between people and God. They played the role of a reconciliator, mediator, solicitor, advocate, etc. Before Jesus Christ came to perform the work of salvation, redemption and reconciliation, they were the ones carrying the burden of sins committed by people. The high priest was the chosen one from among other priests; he was therefore consecrated and ordained to represent man before God. “For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that they may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins” (Heb. 5:1). Thus, his major work was to make offerings of gifts and sacrifices for sins. Interestingly, he must first cleanse himself by sacrificing animals, before he could perform sacrifices on behalf of people. He needed to purify himself because he was an imperfect and mere mortal being. Otherwise, he would lose his life in the process! Prior to the fall of Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, man was relating directly with God. However, after the fall of man, sin created a gulf between humanity and divinity. The cord of his relationship with God was broken, and God stopped communicating with man. After several thousands of years of silence, Jesus Christ – our Great High Priest, volunteered Himself as ransom for the sins of the world. Conversely, Jesus Christ offered His life as the sacrifice once and for all. “Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this He did once, when He offered up Himself” (Heb. 7:27). You can imagine the number of animals and the cost implication involved in the daily sacrificing of animals. By the intervention of Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest, we do not need to appease God with the blood of any animals. “… and without shedding of blood is no remission of sins” (Heb. 9:22).
The blood of Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest, must not be in vain over your life. He is currently at the right hand of His Father, pleading on your behalf. Accept Him today as your personal Lord and Saviour, if you are yet to do so. Be rest assured that our Great High Priest will plead your case this month and you shall receive mercy in Jesus name. Happy New Month! SHALOM
