Understanding Anointing - Part 4

I strongly believe, based on the exposition in this series so far, that we now understand anointing and its purpose, which is to make impact in the world. Patriarchs of old like Elijah, Elisha, Paul, Samson, David, Deborah etc., left indelible mark in the annals of history through the instrumentality of anointing. Yokes are neither broken by strength, nor are burdens lifted by muscles, but by the reason of anointing. As we conclude this series today, there is need to know the price required to pay for anointing.

The first price for anointing is sacrifice. “Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice…” (Psalms 50:5). This scripture clearly shows that nothing just happens. If you see a man doing the extraordinary, the truth is that the position he occupies today is a testament of his sacrifice in the past. Jesus Christ is the epitome of a man who gave Himself as a sacrifice for the redemption of mankind. I mean the sacrifice of humility, servanthood, obedience and eventual death on the cross. What a great sacrificial life! Hence, the result of this selfless sacrifice is the reason for the existence of the church today. Beloved, there is no glory without sacrifice; anointing is very costly but it is worth the price.

Apart from sacrifice, another price for anointing is discipline - a prescribed conduct or pattern of behaviour. It is true that a man or woman without discipline lives a careless life, but a man who lives a disciplined life lives a focused life. People whose names are mentioned in the pantheon of great men and women, either in the Bible or contemporary history, actually lived a disciplined life. Thus, they became carriers of God’s presence and vessels of His anointing and power. Moses, the man after God’s heart, stayed with God for forty days and forty nights without food and water. Consequently, when he came down from mountain, his face was glistering with the glory of God (Exodus 34:28-29). Our Lord Jesus Christ, the greatest leader and teacher of all, did not become the Saviour until He disciplined Himself in prayer and fasting (Matthew 4:2-4).

Always remember that you cannot attain certain level of anointing without sacrifice and you can hardly lay hold on your inheritance in Christ without discipline. Simply put, the valley between the cross and the throne is sacrifice. I pray for you that your horn shall be exalted like the horn of a unicorn and your head shall be anointed with fresh oil. (Concluded). God bless you. SHALOM.
