Your Identity

Your Identity

Identity is simply defined as who or what somebody or something is. The identity of a man is often described in terms of physical appearance such as complexion, height, body build etc. It is interesting to know that God does not see you in terms of your outward look. He simply identifies you with your inward character and the state of your spirit.

It is unfortunate that many children of God have lost their identity in Christ, as they either have dual or multiple identity. How do you explain a Christian keeping ranks and friendship with the world? You want to be enjoying fellowship with God, and at the same time keeping pace with the world. Apostle James likened people who have lost their identity to adulterers and adulteresses. *“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God”* (James 4:4). The truth is that you can neither deceive God nor hide from Him, He knows who you truly are. Beloved, in the matter of relationship with God, you cannot afford to sit on the fence! As a child of God, don’t be hypocritical by pretending to be holy while you are still living in sin. What is your identity status in Christ? Do you really know God, and does He know you? You need to grow your relationship to the point of knowing God intimately, and He must know you as well. Prophet Samuel was carried away by the stature of Eliab, the eldest son of Jesse; oblivious of the fact that the identity of royalty is not in masculinity. He was initially convinced beyond any reasonable doubt, based on his physical appearance. *“But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart”* (1Sam. 16:7). If God beams His searchlight through your heart, what will He see? Will He see an upright and pure heart or a perverse and wicked soul? You can differentiate mangoe from orange because each has its own identity. Naturally, a mango tree produces its own kind; and the same goes for other trees. Are you a fruit-bearing tree? What kind of fruit are you bearing?

Friend, I encourage you to be decisive and intentional in standing and living for God. If you don’t know God yet, accept the Lordship of His dear Son today. God bless you richly. *SHALOM*
