When Mercy Speaks

Mercy appears in the Bible as it relates to forgiveness or withholding punishment, but it goes beyond that. God shows His mercy to those who are in distress by healing, comforting and caring for them. God’s mercy means His pity, compassion, and kindness toward people. The mercy of God shows up in the believers’ lives at salvation. It is a direct reflection of the extension and expression of His love for us. The Old Testament is replete with punishment attached to violation of laws. Conversely, mercy speaks and triumphs over judgment in the New Testament.

The voice of mercy was heard over the life of the adulterous woman who was caught in the very act as alleged by her accusers (John 8:3-11). The law of Moses upheld death penalty but when mercy spoke, it overruled the death penalty. When mercy speaks, rules are broken and protocols are suspended! The man at the pool of Bethesda was another recipient of God’s mercy, regardless of his wrong response to Jesus’ question (John 5:2-9). It is important to note that the only way of receiving the annual healing was by angelic troubling of the pool. It was the survival of the fittest for the sick waiting for their possible chance of getting healed. This man was helplessly there for about thirty-eight years, until mercy located him. In this year 2022, the mercy of God will speak over your situation in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. I beseech you to be asking for God’s mercy in all your endeavor this year. In the book of Mark chapter 10, a man called Bartimaeus was described by his physical disability of sight. However, when he received the news of Jesus Christ passing by, he cried for mercy. “And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry and say, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:47). The blind Bartimaeus defied the able-bodied multitude of people thronging Jesus and made his request known in simple word. He received heaven’s attention that day when the mercy of God spoke for him. As you rely on God’s mercy this year, He will locate your life with His mercy.

The Bible emphasizes the sure mercies of David in Isaiah 55:3; this level of mercy is meant for anyone who is in covenant relationship with God. If you want to obtain and enjoy that kind of mercy, you need to enter into covenant relationship with God by giving your life to Him. Walk with God and His sure mercies will speak for you. God bless you real good. SHALOM
