Grateful Attitude

Attitude has been described as a thing of the mind, and it is often influenced by one’s experiences, belief/value system, etc. It is someone’s disposition, either good or bad, towards somebody or something. Attitude is formed over time, and it is practically difficult to change once entrenched. This is why parents need to inculcate good attitude in their children, so that they can imbibe it throughout their lifetime. What your aptitude cannot get, your attitude can give it to you!

God has an expectation on what our reaction should be to all His goodness, grace and mercy that we freely enjoy. He does not need our food, money, clothes or other material substances. The only thing God wants from us is the heart and attitude of gratitude! Perhaps, ‘gratitude’ could be said to mean a ‘grateful attitude’. God’s desire is that you will return to Him the praises, thanksgiving, glory and honour that He deserves. Many people come to God with loads of request, asking Him to do this and that. They don’t bother to thank Him for their answered prayers, even if they are few. Beloved, count your blessings and name them one by one; don’t be an ingrate! Always cultivate the attitude of gratitude and appreciate God for who He is, what He has done, and what He will still do. Even, waking up every morning in good health is a blessing. The Psalmist gave an instruction on how we should come to His presence. *“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name”* (Psalms 100:4). The elements of gratitude are listed in the above scripture. Thanksgiving prepares the ground as you approach God’s throne of grace and mercy. It is an instrument used in knocking the door to His court. Cultivate this grateful attitude of thanksgiving in the place of prayer, confession, singing, etc. Praise is a tool that makes God arise by mercy and act on your behalf. A heartfelt praise is a sacrifice that God cannot overlook, and it prompts Him to swiftly answer you. Friend, be praiseful and thankful to God! Lastly, you need to bless the name of the Lord at all times. You can do this by calling His beautiful and wonder-working names like Jehovah, Yahweh, The Almighty, etc., and acknowledge His mighty deeds of the past.

As established in the scripture, the end of the age is nearer than ever. *“For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy”* (2Timo. 3:2). We need to be sensitive to this crucial time and not be caught unaware. Develop and cultivate the attitude of being grateful to God at all times. God bless you.
