His Mighty Hands

The Bible describes the mighty hand of God with nomenclatures like right hand, outstretched arm, mighty arm, strong hand, etc. The hand or arm of God is a symbolism of His divine and miraculous interventions in the affairs of man. King David had the vivid understanding of the exploits wrought by the mighty hand of God. Little wonder, he remarked in Psalms 118:16- *“The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly”*. The right hand of God is exalted, like God Himself is praised; His mighty hand represents His greatness and mighty presence.

Prophet Moses admonished the elders of Israel to keep God’s commandments and also reminded them about His furious acts upon the Egyptians. *“Know today that I do not speak with your children, who have not seen the chastening of the Lord your God, His greatness and His mighty hand and His outstretched arm …”* (Deut. 11:2-4). While leading the Israelites, Moses’ experiential knowledge of the performance of God’s mighty hand cannot be overemphasized. When the Egyptian magicians could no longer imitate God’s miraculous acts; they testified, at king Pharaoh’s palace, that surely this is the finger of God (Exodus 8:19). When the enemies see unfathomable acts in your life, they will openly acknowledge the mighty hand of God at work. David trusted in God’s ability to save, deliver and redeem him from every power of oppression. That is why he requested God in Psalms 17:7 *“Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You, from those who rise up against them”*. The basic truth is that God’s deeds are neither deniable nor contestable! The Israelites witnessed the mighty hand of God at several times in their journey through the wilderness to the Promised Land. Moses’ hand, stretched over the Red Sea, was an extension of God’s mighty hand that parted the sea. The wheels of the Egyptian chariots were troubled by the hand of God, so that they would not be able to catch up with the Israelites, while passing through the Red Sea. The water that gushed out of the Rock, by the rod of Moses, was by the instrumentality of the strong hand of the Lord. The supernatural workings of God, by His mighty hand, are just too numerous to mention!

Friend, if you desire God’s mighty hand to work in your situation; you must submit your life to Him. *“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time”* (1Peter 5:6). Promotion, by God’s hand, comes through humility. Stay humble! *PEACE*.
