Be a Change Agent - Part 4

In this series, we have defined who a change agent is and cited a few Bible characters who were change agents in their own time. Specifically mentioned were the three Hebrew men, the Samarian woman, Daniel and Esther as epitome of change agents. Godly parental upbringing and training of children was also identified as the bedrock for raising change agents. We shall be drawing the curtain on this series as we consider the unique characteristics of the change agents as illustrated by Jesus Christ.

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:13-14). The Master Himself made the divine analogy about the believers, as contained in the above scriptures. He called Christians salt of the earth and light of the world and further explained the purpose of each. A careful observation of salt and light gives an insight into living the life of a change agent. God will open our eyes of understanding as we discuss this briefly.

The physico-chemical properties of salt have some spiritual connotations which every believer should seriously look into. Salt is white in appearance which portrays a life of holiness, purity and sanctity. It sweetens any food item where it is present and this symbolises a life of impact. Furthermore, salt preserves food commodities which suggests hope to the hopeless. Lastly, it is often used as antacids which indicates bringing healing to the dying world. Therefore, anyone who desires to be a change agent must first be holy before impacting the world in any capacity. In the same way, light is very important to living the life of a change agent. Light provides illumination that gives direction as well as focus in life. It is so vital to creativity and productivity that God Himself created light ahead of every other thing. Light removes fear of uncertainty and worries about the future. Energy from light is not only needed by plants to manufacture their food but also powers many electrical appliances.

Friend, you cannot give what you do not have! If you want to be a change agent that will bring unprecedented changes to the world, you must connect with Jesus Christ who is the light and sun of righteousness. Confess your sins and accept His Lordship today. God bless you. (Concluded).
