Be Like Them

The growth or developmental process of children is a sight to behold, as they increase in body size and height. In addition, they also develop in the three domains: psychomotor, affective and cognitive skills. It is reflected in their physical, emotional and intellectual or mental abilities. This is not unconnected with adequate nourishment and care from their parents, especially the mothers

. As children grow, notable virtues in their interpersonal relationship include their sincerity, simplicity, humility, forgiveness, kindness, etc. For instance, children find it very difficult to keep malice with their peers who offend them, and they let go easily. Conversely, most adults do not forgive, they tell lies with ease, and generally self conceited. Jesus Christ replied His disciples who asked Him who the greatest person in heaven was. *“And said, verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven”* (Matt. 18:3). Why did the Master make this analogy? The heart of a child is broken and contrite, and that is what God wants. He does not have much pleasure in our offerings and sacrifices, but searches our hearts. Anyone who desires to make heaven must first be converted and be like little children. Confession is by mouth, but conversion is a matter of the heart. What is the condition of your heart? Friend, you may be old by age, but young at heart! Apostle Peter also made a similar analogy in 1Peter 2:2 *“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”* Every neonate or infant needs milk for proper nourishment and growth. The above scripture explains that adequate growth is dependent on the quality of food one eats. However, the need to have desire for good food cannot be over-emphasized. Do you wish to grow? If your response is in the affirmation, then you must desire the raw word of God. It is amazing that some Christians are selective in reading certain portions of the Bible, leaving others. It means such people are not eating spiritual balanced diet, and therefore, they will be malnourished. The word of God is the complete and perfect meal for growth into spiritual maturity. *“All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”* (2Timo. 3:16)

Beloved, I charge you today to develop the heart of little children who do not think highly of themselves. They are plain hearted and bear out their minds on issues of life. May the Lord continue to keep and watch over our children. Happy Children’s Day celebrations! *SHALOM*
