The Secret Place Part 1

A secret is defined as something that is kept or meant to be kept unknown or unseen by others. Often times, people find a secluded place to discuss issues considered as secret. This is done to ensure secrecy and confidentiality of their discussion. Similarly, God has a secret place where He is pleased to be relating with man. In fact, God’s desire is that man will perpetually dwell in His secret place. There are surely numerous attendant benefits of abiding in the secret place of God.

The Psalmist had vivid understanding of the topic under discourse when he remarked that “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalms 91:1). Where is that secret place of God? The presence of God is His secret place! A cursory look at the two power words ‘dwells’ and ‘abide’ in the above scripture shows their meaning as living somewhere as a resident not a visitor. In other words, anyone residing in God’s secret place shall always live in His presence. The phrase ‘the shadow of the Almighty’ simply refers to the presence of God. The shadow of a person or something can only be present wherever that person or thing is present. When you abide under the shadow of the Almighty, you are covered and shielded from any evil. David further says in Psalms 31:20 “You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence, from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion, from the strife of tongues.” Another benefit of staying in God’s presence is rest from every trouble because no affliction can stand His presence. There is also joy unspeakable for every soul that dwells in the presence of God. In addition, he or she has everlasting pleasures in God’s presence. The scripture says “…In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalms 16:11). Moses was another man who neither took God’s presence for granted nor handled it with levity. Little wonder, he said to God while leading the Israelites “If Your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here” (Exodus 33:15).

Friend, I tell you that no place is worth going and no venture is worth embarking on, without the presence of God. Are you a visitor or resident in God’s presence? However, you must know that activating or securing God’s presence begins with living in holiness and righteousness. You cannot be holy and righteous if you are still committing sin. Give your life to Jesus Christ today and begin to enjoy the dividend of the secret place and His presence. God bless you (To be contd). Happy New Month! SHALOM
